Tell us about yourself
Hiya all! I’m Mackie or Rep_McTruides. I am 17 and was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy Spaticity Diaplegia (CP for short), when I was born. If you don’t know the condition, it is basically a neurological disorder caused by brian damage at birth. Despite this, I have never let my diagnoses stop me from doing the things I love! I am a singer /songwriter, I play the piano and I love to read books! I am a passionate writer at heart, and I aspire to become a journalist! Oh – and very importantly, my favourite colour is PINK!

Bart – LW

Tell us about yourself

Hey, I am Bart! I work as a Chat Host and Livewire In Hospital facilitator. As a chat-host, my role is to facilitate and monitor social interaction by members, encouraging all members to help create a safe and fun place for all other members. I also combine by roles online and In-Hospital to run creative competitions, exhibitions and encourage members to take part in many creative outlets, such as being involved with the Livewire Zine.

How long have you been on LW for?

I have been with LW for over 5 years!

What does LW mean to you?

LW is a safe place for all young people with an illness of some kind, to engage in social interaction that may be lacking in their immediate lives, without the fear of being judged, criticized or misunderstood. It’s a space that offers many opportunities to young people, from gaining help, socially, to being offered the chance to guide and mentor others. I’m proud to be a part of a social media tool that is so positive.

Is Livewire only online?

You’ll find Livewire ihospital wards across Australia too! As you probably know, being hospitalised is no fun at all – but our Livewire team is there to make things a little more bearable.

Throughout the day, our Livewire facilitators swing by the wards just to say hey and see how you’re going. Then in the evening, Livewire takes over the Starlight Express Rooms to run activities and creative workshops. Digital art, stop-motion animation, music, cooking, writing… you name it!

It’s all pretty chiland there’s no pressure to take part – but if you’re stuck in hospital or having treatment, it can be good to know Livewire is there.

If you haven’t come across us in the hospital you visit, you can still get to know us by simply jumping online. Plus we have weekly livestreams from different hospitals from across Australia;
